2021.12.01 09:20 macpigem Safe Drill-Coming up
So as Training Captain, I've procured a safe in an acquired building. I was thinking about doing some outside-the-box/Low-Frequency High-Risk type of drill. The drill will consist of a "kid" stuck in a safe. Our Heavy Rescue Company will have to gain access to the safe and get our "kid" out.
Has anyone done a drill like this? I've been down the rabbit hole on calls like these. My research has shown that the typical call is usually a Gun safe that kids get trapped into. Sometimes in a sporting goods store or something. Obviously calling a locksmith would be our go-to move in a real-world scenario. But I wanted to give our guys something fun and interesting (sorta brain teaser) to work on.
I'd post this in Lockpicking but their rules seem pretty strict as it is a "functioning lock". But I'm sure some folks are in both groups.
My go-to move would be the gain access through the back of the safe. Angle Grinder, then jaws, break concrete/brick, angle grinder again.
My Lieutenant wants to go through the lock mechanism. He thinks knocking off the dial you can manipulate the locking mechanism to pop the door.
We don't think through the hinges will really do anything. We won't use our oxy-acetylene or an exo-thermic torch...because we don't want to "cook" the kid. But thinking about this now, maybe the concrete will protect the "kid".
But that's why I wanted to pick our collective brains. If there is a demand for it, I'll post photos from our drill.

2021.12.01 09:20 drhebi Hebi and me, a 25 years old story of programming.
Hello, I am more than 50's today and I would like to share my experience with you. It is the story of a friendship between me and Hebi, a game I first programmed 25years ago.
Sorry, I am French and sometimes my english sounds strange.
Hebi means snake in Japanese and I was inspired by the game of Snake. In this game, a snake eats pellets that make it grow taller. You have to eat a certain number of them per level without biting any part of the snake.
After my studies, I worked for an IBM research center in the south-east of France and discovered the operating system OS/2, a competitor of Windows and Mac OS. This system was abandoned by IBM. Quite naturally, I programmed little games to have fun. I added a labyrinth and that's how Hebi was born. I use some of the mazes from PACPAC, a Pacman game that I also created for OS/2.
Then OS/2 disappeared. So I adapted Hebi for Windows and that's when I realized the importance of creating easily portable games. Hebi Windows was a carbon copy of the OS/2 version. I offered my games as shareware in magazines or BBS (peer to peer forums long before the existence of the internet). In my new job, my colleague Raymond introduced me to the java language, which has the particularity of being independent of operating systems. I had found my Grail. I adapted Hebi to the Java language and discovered by the same the object programming. The Internet was coming and was a great way to disseminate his creations to the whole world. In 1999, I definitely took the Internet step and created https://www.arcadevillage.com. It was a bit difference at this time.
Thanks to ArcadeVillage, I got noticed by Nokia, who offered to adapt Hebi for his smartphone, the Communicator. And no, Apple did not invent the smartphone ! That was Hebi's heyday, since it is presented at a major conference in HonKong to demonstrate that we can make color games on smartphones. Alas, I did not understand that smartphone games are going to develop at this point. I only have one fleece in the colors of Nokia left in memory of that time...
But Internet is a dark place where wars and chaos reign. Sun, the company responsible for java, goes bankrupt. It is bought by Oracle which will sabotage Java for its own needs. The applets, these small programs that ran in browsers, disappear and my games with them. I think about giving it all up, then I watch again the movie Tron and realize that a designer cannot give up on his creations. So I created AVJukeBox which allowed those who wanted it, including me, to be able to still play with my games by downloading an application on their computer.
You can try hebi here : https://www.arcadevillage.com/curiosite/ahebi.html

2021.12.01 09:20 19BlackHeart99 Buying a tv and need help making the right decision
Hey everyone, I'm looking for a new tv. It's my first time buying one and i have no idea about what's good. I found Philips 43PUS8106 and it looks great, especially because it has ambilight and some other functions that i can use and didn't find on other TV's. So my question is am i making the right choice? Is that a good TV? My brother has PUS7805 and he experiences lags, freezes and usually he needs to disconnect the tv and connect again so it would work. Is that gonna be a problem with the one i like as well? Any help is welcome. Thanks

Let the air out of their tires and throw a sticky drink on the windshield. It technically doesn’t count a property damage because they can put air back in and hose off the windshield.

2021.12.01 09:20 Fluegelnuss420 I just sacrificed 14 armies.
Yes, this is another rant about Crusade Management. I‘m on my second playthrough. First one (Azata) actually felt well in difficulty as i did not know what is strong and what is weak and generally did a few things wrong. Until i found out what is strong (spells and archers). From then i just one shotted armies with spells, caster and archer units. I felt OP af.
Now i‘m on my second playthrough (Lich) and i immediately got a caster general. That and the skeletons/zombies from Lich made pretty much every fight obsolete. I had no need to recruit any units. Fast forward a bit i have cleared every enemy army i can reach before act 4, pretty much without casualties (hospitals and fire balls hell yeah). I check my kingdom stats and see that Military is still level 2 while all others are close to finished. Well, guess what, by being good in combat and not needing to buy units i missed out on a lot of military experience. Think about it: i did exceptionally good (not self praise, i just never needed any units) but get marginal experience. You can see from this: you actually get military experience from your economy, by buying units.
Now i wanted i obviously wanted to max out my military stat as well (the quest for maxing them ends when entering act 4), so i just started buying every unit i saw (it worked, my military stat jumped from level 2 to almost 5 in like 3 weeks) with the massive pile of finance points i had hoarded from not buying units. Then came the main problem: i had so many different armies i could actually not select my major one because it did not show up on the screen anymore! There were no enemy armies left to send them to suicide. AND THERES NO FUCKING OPTION TO DISMISS UNITS. I had to wait until a demon army attacked me and send all those troops into death. Just because i did GOOD.
Seriously Owlcat, please implement the ability to dimiss units. I‘d even dismiss them for Finance Points (could be something like give them retirement, raises crusade morale or something). Or give the player less random units and more units to actually build on (more like in HOMM, which it is a ripoff of anyways). Or don‘t level up military mainly by buying units but rather by winning battles with little casualties. Or nerf casters lol.
To clarify: i could probably have sorted the units and reduce them to ~7 armies, but i definitely did not want to go through that logistic horror.
